This was my first five miler in quite some time and despite it being the longest distance since my comeback, I held the fastest average pace of any of my recent runs at sub 55 10k pace. Felt really good to cover the distance at that pace, and even managed a 1k cool down jog back home – now want to start getting closer to the 40 minute mark for 5 miles, work on my speed, and add some longer runs bit by bit so I can start chipping away at my running challenges

Felt tired all day yesterday so planned an easy 3 miler – was very hard work and shin/lower legs on left leg was complaining a bit, so a few days rest are in order – no major problems but I was glad to come to a stop and just need to take it easy before next week’s races so plan not to do anything too hard in the meantime as it will not do any good now, just need to keep things ticking over!

The ever misnomered easy run! It was the first day of the heavy snow in the UK, and was snowing as I set off – the pavements were covered with ice and snow, so kept to the road. Kept a nice slow pace, until I saw another jogger in the distance and decided to catch them, which I did, and then I turned back and returned home at a more leisurely pace – the quick middle section had me puffing hard by the end but recovered almost instantly.

Apologies to anyone who thinks this blog is dead (or that I am dead, it might well look that way, but I only feel half dead at the moment!) – I did manage a couple of comeback run/walks, managed to run for 15 minutes out of 30 at a time, and the hip injury didn’t make so much as a whisper.

So after 8 weeks – or a couple of months, I was just getting back into it when I got hit with flu and a chest infection – so will be off the road again probably until early 2009.

It is so frustrating, but I am determined to get back to fitness and enter some races again soon!
