Nice easy run around the Mill Lane circuit so uphill going into Hyde then some downs then another big up! Actually felt comfortable, got into a way of running slowly that didn’t feel like trotting or half walking, which felt good, noticed I sped up unconsciously at times and was forefoot striking again, so slowed it down, and am pleased I can now resist the temptation to go fast as running at this pace seems to be doing my basic aerobic fitness a lot of good, rather than possible junk miles at a slightly quicker pace.

Upping the pace last week and Sunday’s long 10 miler seem to have hit me!
Felt tired all day yesterday so planned an easy 3 miler – was very hard work and shin/lower legs on left leg was complaining a bit, so a few days rest are in order – no major problems but I was glad to come to a stop and just need to take it easy before next week’s races so plan not to do anything too hard in the meantime as it will not do any good now, just need to keep things ticking over!

Last easy run before Sunday’s Great manchester run. I seem to follow a pattern of my last run before a race being awful – meant to do 4 miles today but was feeling it getting harder and harder so stopped at 5k and was pretty hot and sweaty despite the cool day – and had not gone very quick at 29 minutes for the 5k, but had a bit of tummy trouble and felt a bit tired. Didn’t feel I could possibly have gone any faster and no idea how I ran 23:38 for a 5k last week!
Last time my pre-race run was so bad, I PB’d and nearly went sub 50 for the 10k, so it may be a good omen!

My niece is a bit ill lately so is taking a break from her training, I had held off running today to see if she was up to it; as she wasn’t, I ended up going for a run in the early evening sunshine. Intended to run aroun 6 mins per k and started off at 5:59, then slowed a bit due to inclines and wooden steps in hills! Took the scenic route which was nice, and running at a slow pace was almost like walking used to be, felt I could just keep going, although would feel a bit puffy after hills.
Saw more runners around than I normally do in my daytime runs! I am doing the Dennis the Menace 5 mile race in June so a few evening runs will be good preparation, but took it really nice and easy today.
Hamstring seemed to twinge a bit when I did a burst of race pace for a few 100 metres, but doesn’t seem to be anything major. Think I will rest for a couple of days before another easy 5 miler, and then prepare for the Great Manchester Run 2009!

Easy run as part of training run with Laura Jane. She did about 2.5k, then I went off and did a slightly faster 2.5 to make up a 3 miler. Struggled a bit at the end, yesterday’s long run still in the legs and lungs!

Just a very gentle run before tomorrow’s Bolton 10k – although niece was exhausted, I didn’t break into a sweat or breathe hard. But she’ll get there

Think this may be the first time I’ve done an easy run that actually felt easy – apart from the last bit uphill!
Started running around streets then saw a path which lead to a trail leading to Mill Lane and Denton Woods, so was a scenic route. Had Garmin setup to bleep if I went quicker than 6mins per k, so was very slow and easy but what I needed.
Average pace was 6:35/k. There is an art to running slowly!

Longest run for a while, took the pace very easy as had a hard week last week, and was feeling tired for it, so took a few days off running before getting back into it with this longer, slightly slower run. Felt good apart from a buffeting from the wind now and then, was feeling tired in the later stages but managed to put a burst on and do quite a speedy last kilometre, and recovered very quickly. Ran it 7-8 minutes quicker overall than my last 12k outing (which I found hard) so am improving, and was nice to stay under 6 mins per kilometre all the way and run at just over 55 minute 10k pace.
Average pace 5:40/k

An easy run but felt really puffed out by the end – been feeling chesty though so lungs evidently not at full capacity
Got caught in violent hailstone squall!)

The ever misnomered easy run! It was the first day of the heavy snow in the UK, and was snowing as I set off – the pavements were covered with ice and snow, so kept to the road. Kept a nice slow pace, until I saw another jogger in the distance and decided to catch them, which I did, and then I turned back and returned home at a more leisurely pace – the quick middle section had me puffing hard by the end but recovered almost instantly.
